Does this fill you up, keep you full? I would like to eat less meat but I feel like this wouldn’t make me full since it doesn’t have a lot of protein.
That’s a good question! This picture is a little deceiving since it’s taken from the top; there is a lot more food in those containers than there appears to be. I looked up the stats for all the ingredients:
2 g (1 cucumber); .6 g (3 regular carrots); 2.3 g (2.5 cups spinach); 3.3 g (3 cherry tomatos); .4 g (.5 cup pineapple); .5 g (.5 cup strawberries); .3 g (.3 cup watermelon); 1g (2 tbs hummus) = 10.4 g protein
I should eat 35 - 40 grams of protein (according to an online calculator), so that’s about 27% of my necessary protein intake. Not too bad considering normally I’d add beans or lentils to my salad :)
Another thing to note is dietary fiber, which makes you feel full longer!
1.5 g (1 cucumber); 1.8 g (3 regular carrots); 1.8 g (2.5 cups spinach); 4.5 g (3 cherry tomatos); 1.1 g (.5 cup pineapple); 1.1 g (.5 cup strawberries); .2 g (.3 cup watermelon); 1 g (2 tbs hummus) = 13 g dietary fiber
According to WebMD I need at least 25 grams, so this would be 52% of my necessary intake.
Obviously your numbers would be a little different, but you’d be suprised by how much protein is in plants! You just need to eat a lot of them to benefit - which also helps you feel full. Sorry for the novel, clearly I have a lot of time on my hands :)
